Matthew Ambrose Corshu

January 1, 1938 ~ May 22, 2018 (age 80)

Matthew Ambrose Corshu, 80, of Elizabeth, passed away on May 22, 2018 at his residence in Elizabeth. Viewing will be held Friday June 1, 2018, 4pm-8pm at Krowicki McKracken Funeral Home, Linden New Jersey, Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 2, 2018, 9am at Saint Joseph the Carpenter Church Roselle, New Jersey, Reverend Dr. Krzysztof K. Maslowski of Saint Joseph the Carpenter Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park & Cemetery, Union New Jersey. Matthew was born in Bo, Sierra Leone West Africa to Moses Corshu and Laura Johnson Corshu on January 1, 1938. He went to school at the Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School in Makeni, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone, completed secondary school and traveled to abroad in 1963 to the United States to further his education. He attended Wisconsin University Milwaukee and earned his Bachelors degree in Sociology, he attended Long Island University Brooklyn NY and earned Masters of Sociology and Masters of Arts in Counseling, Mr. Corshu began his doctoral studies at New School for Research in New York, He was married to Marie Rose Brisson Corshu on May 27, 1972, Mr. Corshu was a retired Professor that has taught at various Colleges and Universities in the New York and New Jersey area, he retired from Essex County College, including but not limited to Baruch College, NYIT, Union County College, Caldwell College, College of Saint Elizabeth, New Jersey Institute for Technology, Bergen Community College, Fairleigh Dickinson, Middlesex County College etc. He was a voracious reader, prayer and meditation reflections, avid classical music enthusiast, gardening, attending the symphonies and plays. Mr. Corshu loved tennis, golf and his favorite past time to read a book to enrich his knowledge. Matthew Corshu is preceded in death by his wife Marie Rose Brisson Corshu December 24, 2002. Matthew Corshu is survived by his only daughter Elizabeth Antoinette Corshu, grandsons Jonathan Matthew Houston, Jason Anthony Houston, and a host of sisters in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
