Roberto Velez

June 6, 1940 ~ May 14, 2018 (age 77)

Roberto Velez, loving husband to Aida Luz Velez, and exemplary father to Lenette Velez-Tirso, Roberto Velez, Jr., Migdalea Vargas and Alberto Velez, passed peacefully into the arms of God on the 14th of May, 2018. Roberto was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on June 6, 1940 to loving parents Monserrate Velez and Maria Amelia Gonzalez, and brother to Luis Velez, Francisco Velez, Baldomero Velez and Carmen Nilsa Gonzalez.. Arriving in the U.S. with his family as a young man, he later met and fell in love with his wife, Aida Luz Estremera and they married November 14, 1964. Together they proudly brought forth their four children and were lovingly and faithfully married for 53 years until parted at his passing. Roberto was a parishioner of Holy Rosary-St. Michael’s Church, faithfully serving God, his family and the church community in various roles of usher, minister of the eucharist and assisting his wife in the choir. Roberto was a gifted handyman, using his talents to help fix, build or create various projects to support his church community, friends, family and fellow parishioners. Roberto was employed by Fedders Air Conditioning, and later at Valcor Engineering as a Class C Machinist. He loved the sport of baseball, was an avid Mets fan and enjoyed playing sports. He was an active member of the company softball team, and volunteered his time to coach his daughters and sons as they participated in softball and baseball. He also very much enjoyed attending sports games played by his grandchildren. Roberto was known throughout his family, friends, and church community as a kind, friendly, gentle, and soft spoken man. He was generous with his time, laughter and friendship, and loving and faithful to his family, lending support and assistance to any and all. Although his family and friends grieve at his passing, their hearts and souls are comforted in the knowledge that he is cradled gently in the arms of angels as they lovingly bring him to God for his eternal peace. Knowing how much he was respected and loved by all who were honored to have known him, he will remain forever cherished and never forgotten. Roberto is survived by his brother Francisco Velez, his sister, Carmen Nilsa Velez, his loving wife Aida Luz Velez, his four children, Lenette Velez-Tirso, Roberto Velez, Jr., Migdalea Vargas and Alberto Velez and their spouses, and their ten grandchildren, Cristina Isabel Tenreiro, Adelia Lina Vargas, Theodora Vargas, Julian Andre Tirso, Olivia Celine Tirso, Andre Jorge Tirso, Arias Velez, Nilsa Velez, Sabrina Kathryn Velez and Arielle Amelia Velez..
